This photo was taken on June 1st, 2020 at 22nd Street & Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia.

Protesters on the opposite side of the fence attempt to flee Interstate 676 where riot police have them pinned against a wall on the highway. Protesters were pepper-sprayed, tear-gassed, shot with rubber bullets and beaten by police as they attempted to crawl over each other to escape.

Those who had made it off the highway caught fleeing protesters jumping off the fence to safety. Shortly after the photo was taken, tear gas canisters were shot over the fence by police from the highway. The people trying to help fleeing protesters were forced to abandon them as the gas swept through the crowd.
